FLEAMARKET***FRIDAY

Better late than never....today I'm joining in with my friend Kecia for FLEAMARKET FRIDAY. Last week Kecia and I hit the fleamarket together, I found quite a few goodies, but for now I'm gonna share my favorite find of the day.

I've been collecting Infant of Prague statues for some time. This beauty is the largest one I've ever found. He stands about 24 inches. His face is also exceptional. He also came with 5 vestments.(the beautiful clothing he wears) Kecia and I are planning a day of vestment making. That should be fun.

Why do women love shoes? It's just crazy how so many of us go wild over shoes.....not only do I love beautiful sandals, lace up boots, and Vans and Converse too! My Etsy Shop

I'm Really here......just haven't been feeling to good lately. I think I'm finally coming around. I pushed myself to create, and boy was it therapy. I worked like a busy little beaver and the etsy shop is finally up and running.

Here's a little sampling of the doll cuff bracelets that I came up with. They are hand made and hand painted. I think (I hope) they look the the old antique dolls, that we all love. I hope you all enjoy them.

Having Fun At Kecia's

Well....when Kecia and I create together we make BIG things. I mean large, I guess you gotta go big or go home! We put our heads together and the thoughts just kept flowing, we made these lovely fun dolls. What a fun time!

I went to her house with a doll head and a bunch of vintage goodies. She was also very generous with her supplies. This is what we came up with. My little pretty dosen't have her wings on yet, and she's totally not finished but Kecia posted her little beauty, and I just wanted to get my girl out here.
She also has a party hat like Kecia's doll, but I made her this Easter bonnet because she looked to much like a boy in her party hat.

My friend JoAnna and I talk all the time....She has gotten me going on these little dolls. Hand painted faces, cloth little girls, that are very detailed in their costumes. She told me I should paint some faces and make some little dollies. Well I did and here they are....

Doll Making Weekend

Pearl

I thought she had a soft gentle look about her, but yet elegant like a pearl.

I almost forgot.....Pearl's little companion Blu, her pretty pet birdy friend.

Last weekend I had my friend Kecia http://lemoncholys.blogspot.com/ over for the weekend. We decided to make dolls together. What a great time we had. We thought they could also wear matching friendship necklaces, that we'll be working on in the future. My doll is a work in progress, I think I'll be continuously adding little things to her. Details are very important.
This is the work in progress....we didn't realize that we each made their heads tilting in different directions....leaning into each other....how perfect!

I just love shades of blue, aqua, and blue grays. I was taking a few pics of things in the studio and thought I'd share them. The little porcelain lady has always reminded me of my sister. The Pixie's Birthday

Today is the Pixie's 12th birthday. Boy time flys.I wanted to give her something special. Something just from me. I had made a leather cuff bracelet a couple of weeks ago for my friend Kecia. The Pixie thought is was just perfect. So I gathered some supplies and went to work.........

Making Birdies WIith Colleen Moody

What a wonderful weekend I've had!!! I spent the weekend making this lovely bird "Clarisse" with Colleen Moody. My friend Kecia hosted a fun filled weekend of friendship, art, fabulous food, and just plain old fun. Clarisse dosen't have her wings on yet, but I knew if I didn't just go ahead and post these pics.....who knows if I'd ever get them out here.

Just a quick post to let everyone know I am back from ART IN THE ROUGHhttp://www.naveljellystudios.com/ . What an amazing event. I just got home after a 9 hour drive from Maine. Here's a quick pic of the dress form I created. Robin Betterley is incredible. What an amazing teacher and such a lovely woman. She has helped me bring my dress forms to a whole new level.

FLEAMARKET FIND

Finally I have returned..... Been to Cape May. Had a wonderful time. Fresh air, lots of beach, and most of all relaxing. After Cape May, I came home for a few days and went to work. (yuk) Then the Hubs, the pixie and I went for a quick trip to see my in-laws in Miami. Yes I've had two wonderful trips I'm a lucky girl. This is also what I've been up to...........

My lovely flea market find. This piece is the perfect shades of beachy blue aqua, gray, and white. It was filthy. I've spent the day scrubbing it and sealing it. But let me tell you, I love it!!!!! Right now in is in my hallway. I'm going to try to find a home for it in my studio. There's really no space, but this piece is perfect for it. So I'm gonna try to squeeze it in tomorrow. I'll let ya know how it goes.

THE BEACH ANYONE

I think this little guy needs a date for the beach. He's so cute, and light as a feather. He's made of this very thin celluloid like plastic. I just love posing him around the studio.

I worked on this necklace today, for my sister in law. She's really into the symbol "the hand of Fatima"....I think that's what it's called. I don't know much about it but I think it's to ward off evil. My pictures are so bad. I really have to work on my photography skills. I mean no skills!!!! I say this all the time but this pic really doesn't do it justice.

When I was a little girl my Mom and Dad had a collection of prints by various artists. They were all of big eyed little girls. I think they were from the 60s and 70s. I know there was also prints of puppies and kitties. We didn't have those but I've seen them at yard sales and antique malls. I loved looking at them. I actually have one from my mom's house. She always said it reminded her of me. Anyway that's what inspired this little drawing collage on wood. I also used tissue paper and vintage sheet music.

DRESS FORMS

I love decorating dress forms. From the little wire forms to the yummy vintage Wolf ones. I usually use mostly vintage fabrics and lace. My claim to fame with my friends and their daughters, and family is every time there is a Bridal shower I'm the go to girl. Could you please make me a dress form for the bride. It actually becomes quite an obsession for me. I can really get carried away with the details. My only problem is I always do it for free. Not that that's a problem but you girls know these vintage fabrics and laces can get hard to come by and also a little pricey. My friend JoAnnA of http://www.mosshill.blogs.com/ solders on these little wire dress forms and also teaches an online class for it too. They are really beautiful. Well that's about it.

Tiny Rollerskates

I don't know when I found these little guys, but I've had them forever. The little wheels are delicate but strong. They just inspire me....I don't know why.

I also wanted to share a little sewing project I worked on. The vintage image was transferred onto muslin through my printer. I then used silver leaf with wonder under thanks to Pamela Huntington, and then embellished away.

My Gypsy Studio

This is so exciting!!! I'm so thrilled to be a part of such a fun event. Thank you Karen. Well here we go...... just can't get enough of these lovely vintage suitcases.They are fabulous for storing supplies and even better for bringing your goodies to workshops.

This is part of the Junker Banner I created for my studio. The banner is much prettier in person. The view from my tableI love my studio. It is incredibly peaceful and it is the one space in my home that is truly mine. I spend hours painting, sewing, and making jewelry. I wouldn't have it any other way. I am grateful to my hub and the pixie for giving me the freedom to create whenever I want. (except for when I'm cooking your dinner cleaning the house etc..) only kidding....You guys are the best. I hope you all enjoy my studio!

For the love of buttons

I just love buttons. Especially the antique steel ones. I got lucky this past weekend finding this card of some really beautiful ones. I was even late getting to the local flea. Today I spent some time dyeing fabrics. I love the different shades of blue greens and aquas the laces turned out. It's amazing how each little piece of lace took on it's own color, even though they were all dipped in the same dye. It reminded my of my sisters, from the same mom and dad but all so different. What inspired me to dye these pieces, is I 'm taking a class with Ruth Rae. I can't wait to meet her. Her work is so beautiful. For once I'm trying to get ahead of the game and not be scrambling for my supplies at the last minute. Maybe I'll actually be prepared early. That would be lovely!!!!!

Fun weekend

My friend Kecia came over this past weekend. We had a such great time. Every so often she and I have art escape weekends. This time it was at my house....so I did it a little different. Usually we decide on a project, bring our own supplies, and then just go for it. We help eachother, share ideas, and so on. I planned for us to make large artful tote bags. The great big bag to lug around supplies. She had just gotten back from an event in Cali, so she was exhausted and just wasen't up for digging through her stash, so I made a little kit for each of us. The same vintage fabrics, some new ones also, vintage buttons and little bits and pieces. I think it worked out really great. Our bags are similar but still alittle different, even with the same stuff. I think we realized it was more fun having a little surprise of someone elses cool stuff to play with. I think this will be the new plan in the future. Here's my bag. I hope you like it.

Yes I'm still alive......I just have the winter blues. I am so ready for the warm weather. No good flea markets, no gardening, no basking in the sun. What's a girl to do? Clean her house? That's no fun. Ooh... I got it skype. When one of your very dear friends is across the country...Skype. That's what I did. I felt like I was over her house tonight. My friend JoAnnA of Mosshill studio and I had a blast showing each other things tonight in our studios. I wish we lived closer, even though it did seem like we spent time together tonight. You should try it some time. It's the next best thing to spending the day together. I'll leave you with one of my cute little dollies.

Water colors

I 've been fooling around with water colors. I bought these water colors quite some time ago (like years ago) and I kept meaning to give them a shot. They are just the cake palette type. I figured I give them a roll before I invested in the more expensive kind. Well I had no idea how difficult it is to paint a face with water colors. I found the flowers to be pretty easy. These are just the start of a couple of journal pages.

The first picture is the original page. Then from there on I got a little crazy with photoshop. It's amazing what you can do to these images. I think they look better than the original page. Jane

New Banner

I'm at it again....new banner. What'd ya think ? I think I'm just gonna keep on changing it . I'm having fun. What the heck ! In the new banner I have a picture of two of my dolls. The one to the right is Big Girl. She has such a huge head, the Pixie and I just started calling her big girl a couple of years ago and it just stuck. The other doll is the second doll that I owned in my life. I was about 8 and she was my first antique store purchase. So needless to say, I've had her for quite a long time.

Photoshop Elements........is the coolest!!!!! I'm having so much fun with my new camera. I'm learning how to work with photoshop. This is all new to me, it's a lot of trial and error. In my case more error, but I've enjoyed every minute of it. It's amazing what you can do to a couple of plain pictures from your studio. I'm so proud of myself. The technical stuff is not my thing. I'm a feel it in my hands and mold it kinda girl. He he that didn't come out right. You know what I mean.

To be this photogenic.........I found this sweet little girl while out and about with the Pixie a few months ago. We really don't know any info on her. We just fell in love with her. Her pretty little smile and those bright eyes, how could you not love her?

I think I'm getting a little bit better at taking pictures. That's not saying much, since I'm god awful. I had a lot of fun taking pictures of my favorite friends in my studio. This little guy so proudly sits on top of my favorite cabinet. My chair sits facing him while I'm creating. He's quite the inspiring view! Jane

I can't believe how fast the holidays breeze right by. Christmas was wonderful....it just went to fast. Took a few pics of the house to savor the holiday spirit. Santa was very good to the little pixie. Guess she's not that little anymore. She was thrilled. Without her, Christmas would have been really tough, since it was my first without Mom. Seeing the beautiful smile on the pixie's face, just lights up my heart. Grandma would have been proud. More pics soon..... after I finish reading the instructions (for the first time in my life) of my new camera. Thanks Santa!

The Beautiful Kitty

Today the Pixie and I went out in search of lovelies. We came across a stuffed dog made of Tibetan lamb and I said Claud doesn't she look like my kitty? She agreed but not as cute. As we were talking a lady next to us asked what does your kitty look like. As I started to tell her she began to tell me exactly what my kitty looked like. She also said she would be interested in buying her. Well this is the story of the kitty. At 18 I went to work for a man....who was the most talented, kindest guy you'd ever meet. Besides dabbling in my art work, I am a hairdresser by day. He was the owner of the salon. Danny..... Danny was the first and only American to be the #1 hairstylist in the world. (believe it or not there's a Championship similar to the Olympics) This mans only goal was to make people feel good about themselves. With his gentle smile and kind soul he could manage to make the worst day seem bright. It was a gift. I was 18 when we met and Danny was 32(I think). I remember thinking oh how old he was.(HE HE) When we met I was a makeup artist and had no plans at that time to go work as a hairstylist, I was happy just freelancing, I was young ya know. Well that was until Danny, he said come to my salon and we'll talk. As I said I had no interest. The next day my phone rang and it was him. I didn't give him my phone # he happened to talk about me to someone who knew me and they gave him my #. That evening I went to the salon after some gentle persuasion by Dan. Well the rest was history he had me working by his side that night. This story may sound a little weird...that there was some strange connection between us...but no... we were just friends. He was like a father to me and my best friend. Dan was a married man and at the time I never really knew his wife very much because she was kinda behind the scenes. They were a very successful couple and pretty wealthy.....now years have past, we've taken art classes together vacations with my husband(that's another story) we're just buddies, like minded people....this is where I get to the kitty..He always bought his wife beautiful gifts. Some of which she loved and some of which she didn't. I remember when he bought her the kitty....thinking oh my gosh Danny it's so beautiful, she's gonna love it. I never really talked to him much about it again until about five years later , I'm probably about 30 at the time and Dan in his mid forties. Dan tells me he's having an estate sale at his house because he and his wife are moving. He asks me if I'll come over and help them price some of the items. So of coarse I go over. To my surprise everything in the house has a price tag on it. I'm the kinda girl who has sentimental feelings about so many old things I just couldn't imagine this. So I'm looking around checking price tags trying to help them and I convince them not to sell their dining room set. It was absolutely beautiful. His wife still thanks me to this day. So as I'm looking around I spot the kitty with a price tag of $25.00. I look at Dan and say you have got to be kidding me!!!! He looks back at me and says she never really liked it anyway. I was devastated, I felt sorry for him and I also felt sorry for the kitty. I mean no disrespect to his wife, there are all kinds of people. I just couldn't stop thinking about the kitty but I felt weird asking if I could buy it so I said nothing. I helped them with the pricing then I got on my way. Well when I got in my car sitting in the passenger seat was my lovely kitty who I cherish with all my heart. Unfortunately about a year later my best friend Dan had a heart attack and passed away. I have so many wonderful memories of him and boy do I miss him. This posting of the pictures is for Dory who I met today. Dory I'm sure you would love her very much but there isn't a price in the world that I could take for her. She means a lot to me but thank you anyway. A little under the weather this week. Feeling pretty crumby, finally pulled myself of the couch to do a little art. This bracelet looks a lot nicer in person the designs on it are rich brown they look kinda reddish in these pictures. Need a new camera!!! Or better yet need to learn to take better photos. I made this on suede with lots of yummy vintage findings.

The hubby says this happens to me because I'm unorganized....Bla bla bla.This happens to me because I get lost in the moment, I keep adding things and needing other supplies and so on. You know creating is magic the muse takes over...It's my sanity, so I may be a little messy who cares!!! Well after cleaning up the studio, I decided to open photoshop elements for the first time. Knowing that I have very little knowledge of my computer I thought it can't be that difficult. Wow that was a challenge. It was quite scary. I went a little crazy. Lots to learn. He thinks that picture of my studio is unorganized. Check out photoshop gone wild. I tried a lot of brushes just to get the feel. This is gonna take some practice!

This is Claudia, she's my baby. Claudia is the pixie of a Pixie and a Gypsy. She's my partner in crime and definitely an old soul. This is Halloween last year. I'm back tracking since I've had this blog for about a year and been ya know in the weeds to say the least. We're in crunch time now working on the new Halloween costume. She takes Halloween very seriously. I'm also involved in a Halloween Swap with the same group of girls plus a few more from the 4th swap. I can't wait to see the goodies. Halloween gets hairy but it's always a lot of fun!!!!!

Well here I go..... My very first post....I've been a blog stalker for a very long time, and loving every minute of it. There are so many wonderful blogs out there, JoAnna of Mosshill Studio she is such a sweetheart. I love her ! There's Kecia of Lemoncholy's who is my new dear friend also from N.J. and here's a bunch of girls that I don't know personally but they are all fantastic.... Pam Garrison amazing journaling, Amy Hanna jewelry wow...Carol Spinski love her style . There's so many more.....Daisy Pink Cupcake pure inspiration...amazing pictures(I'm a white girl myself). I could go on and on but I won't I'll post a few more favs each day. Let me talk a little about myself (try not to fall asleep). I'm a bit of a jack of all trades master of none but I'm working on it. I love to spend time at the fleas and create all kinds of art with what I find. I'm a hairstylist by day mother, artist, and wife by night. Hoping soon to be blogger extraordinaire...HEHEHE. I'm gonna post a few of my favorite photos. Here I go....
